Mexican College of Critical Medicine (COMMEC)
Mexican College of Critical Medicine (COMMEC) is a civil association comprised of specialists who carry out assistance, teaching, research, and management activities in the field of Critical Medicine, defining standards and performing activities aimed at achieving the satisfaction of its members and the outstanding management of the seriously ill.
The Mexican Association of Critical Medicine was founded in 1973 by 28 Mexican doctors specialized in disciplines related to Intensive Medicine; five surgeons, five cardiologists, four internists, four nephrologists, three pulmonologists, three anesthesiologists, a neurosurgeon, a cardiovascular surgeon, and an intensive care physician. In this foundation, the representation of the intensive care units that already existed in the public and private sectors stands out, and their inter and multidisciplinary origins are testified.
In 2010, a proposal is made to the General Meeting of Members to transform it into a College, considering the diversity of academic, administrative, assistance, and legal functions typical of any College, and thus have representation before health, education, and judicial authorities, both in the state and federal spheres, and be able to interact with Universities and Hospitals, among other Societies. Once the desire for the change was approved, the collection of signatures and documents necessary to execute the required procedures was started in order to start registering with the Ministry of Public Education as “Colegio Mexicano De Medicina Critica A.C. (COMMEC A.C.)”.
